Sharing Of Old Penang Collection

Happy weekend. Sharing some of member's collection for the early Penang scenery and activities . Our old Penang postcard and collections had a very special and beautiful view. Hopes you all like it.

1) Penang was famous for its street food. Showing some of the early hawker business activities in Penang.

2) Maxwell road itself and the post office no longer exist. A good memories. A lot of cinema located at that area, royal, capitol, paramount, Eastern etc.A late view of the amusement park.

3) An early postcard showing the view of Penang, Dato Kramat Road (upper section after the Perak Road junction). A parallel moving of the Rickshaw and the electric tram towards town area.

4) Choong Lye Hock has a big estate in Penang. You can see from the following documents under the choong Lye Hock estate, big amount of stamp duty. Collection of Lee YY

5) An early postcard showingthe view of Penang Burmah Road. Hawker selling bottle drinks on the road side.

6) Dr. Rabindranath Tagore (Asia first philosopher who has been awarded a Nobel Prize) visit Penang Hu Yew Seah (่พ…ๅ‹็คพ) and laid a foundation stone for the school building on 14.08.1927.

7) Windsor Building that established in 1933 located at the junction of Maxwell Road, Burma Road and Penang Road. 3 early famous restaurant open business here, ie. Theang Name Low Southern restaurant (ๅคฉๅ—ๆฅผ), then Thai Pak Low (ๅคช็™ฝๆฅผ), then Heong Kong Restaurant (้ฆ™ๆฑŸๆฅผ). Emporium supermarket (ไธœๆ–น) occupied the said building on the early 1970s.

8) Anglo Chinese Boy School occupied a new building at Maxwell Road (Today's Komtar walk location) which completed on 1897. The building is next to the Penang Chinese School (ไธญๅŽๅญฆๆ ก). The school later renamed to Methodist Boy School.
